An app that rewards face-to-face brand recommendations between friends. Recommend a brand to a friend in person and you both earn points. The recommender also builds their Cred, a reputation score, and the listener gets the brand's coupon when there's an active offer.

You have to be physically present with the person you're recommending to. Bluetooth confirms you're actually together — no spamming links to strangers, no mass-sharing codes online. You're vouching with your name and your reputation, not an anonymous link.

Vouch is live — download it free on the App Store for iPhone or Google Play for Android. We launched in Toronto, so the Greater Toronto Area has the most brands today, and we're expanding from there.

iPhone and Android. You need a device with Bluetooth Low Energy, which covers virtually every smartphone made in the last several years.

Both people need the app — the Bluetooth handshake happens between two phones. Onboarding takes under two minutes, so it doubles as the opening line: "You should try this place — let me send you a Vouch."

The Voucher makes the recommendation and puts their name behind a brand. The Listener receives it. Both need the app, and both earn points. The Voucher also builds Cred, and the Listener gets a coupon when the brand has an active offer.

To confirm you're actually together. Bluetooth handles the peer-to-peer discovery; you also need an internet connection to load brands and complete the recommendation.

Your personal collection of every recommendation friends have given you, with any coupons attached. A bookshelf of trusted suggestions — no more forgetting the restaurant your friend raved about.

Your reputation score, separate from points. +5 when you vouch, +2 when you listen, +15 when a friend redeems your coupon. Tiers run Bronze at 100, Silver at 300, Gold at 600 and Platinum at 1,000, counted on a rolling 90-day window.

Any brand on Vouch. If your favourite spot isn't listed, submit it from inside the app and vouch for it right away — it shows as pending until we review it. We curate the directory to keep the quality up.

One of you on Vouch, the other on Listen, Bluetooth on, the app's Bluetooth permission granted, and within arm's reach. Discovery runs for 60 seconds before it gives up. If it still won't connect, close and reopen the app on both phones, or switch to the QR code — it refreshes every 30 seconds, up to five times.

Bluetooth — shown as "Nearby devices" on Android — powers the in-person handshake. Notifications are optional but worth having so you know when you earn. Location is optional: Discover asks for it to sort places by distance, and if you allow it, each vouch you give is tagged with where it happened so businesses can see which neighbourhoods their fans are in. Say no and it still works. Vouch never reads your contacts.

Coupons live in your Vault. Open the coupon when you're at the business — it shows the offer, the terms and how to redeem. Show it when you pay and the business applies the offer.

Browse the Discover tab to see the businesses on Vouch. If a favourite spot isn't there yet, submit it from the app.

Vouching earns you 50 points and raises your Cred. Listening earns 20 points plus the coupon. When the coupon is redeemed you each pick up another 20.

Yes — 60 points land when a friend you invited makes their first vouch.

Not always. A coupon is attached when the brand has an active offer. The recommendation still lands in your Vault and you both still earn points either way.

That depends on the brand's offer. Each coupon in your Vault shows its terms and its expiry date.

Points, yes — redeem them for a prepaid Virtual Visa card in the app, from 1,000 points ($10) up to 10,000 ($100), delivered to your email. Your account has to be at least 14 days old, and it's one redemption a day. Cred can't be cashed out; it's your reputation, and the tiers run Bronze at 100 through Platinum at 1,000.

Only if you allow it. Discover uses your location to sort places by distance. Each vouch you give is tagged with where it happened (coordinates and the first three characters of the postal code) and stored with that vouch, so businesses can see which neighbourhoods their fans are in; they never see you or your position. Vouch never reads your location in the background, and you can turn it off in your phone's settings at any time.

No. Vouch never reads your contact list or address book. Connections happen in person over Bluetooth.

Any time, from Settings in the app or the account deletion page. Deletion permanently removes your profile, wallet balance, transaction history and all associated data.
